Know your internet, storm tracker edition

Spring is here in the midwest, and that can only mean one thing...tornadoes! (OK, it actually means a lot more than that, but whatever.) Anyway, there are lots of weather sites out there; I like this one because it shows the radar loop in motion. So it not only shows any approaching storms but you can actually tell where the storm is headed. The link hones in on Omaha, but you can just put your city and state in at the top and see weather for your area.

And its from the government, so you KNOW you can trust it!

Hint...if it's hailing and dark and you hear an unusually loud roar, you probably don't need to consult this site. Otherwise, check it out.

Is this thing for scientists, or what? "Base reflectivi...what??"
It's purty though.

OK, I admit it's not perfect when it's calm outside. There is usually some noise around (the green and blue) because the radar is pretty sensitive. I'd have done that part better, but they haven't asked me yet.

But, I'm telling you, when there are big storms around, it really shows you where they are and if they are moving toward you or going to slide right by the metro area. The green and blue are usually clouds, maybe some drizzle, yellow is harder rain and the red is where things start getting interesting.

I don't know what the composite and base reflectivity mean though. They probably just made that up to make them look smart.

Okay, well, I felt dumb when it started storming asking what the green and yellow meant...clearly I just need more time checking the site and looking out the window...

Right now it is beautiful outside. According to the map there is gold and blue glitter falling from the sky!
